GeiDeLei is a free, privacy-focused hands-free translation and language learning app for iPhone.

Overview

GeiDeLei (the app) is provided as-is. The user interface is intentionally simple and self-explanatory.

The app relies on third-party services that are freely available. In this sense, GeiDeLei acts as a convenient browser that lets you use these web services and interpret the results in a practical, hands-free way. These services may be changed, removed, or updated at any time, as they are not part of the app itself.

Core Experience

GeiDeLei provides instant hands-free translation of a single word or short sentence. Simply tap the microphone button and it will listen continuously.

Switch to Alternate mode and enjoy dialogue with yourself: say a word in your language, hear the translation, and repeat it back. This makes learning new languages easy and completely hands-free. Many languages are supported.

Translation Engines

The app offers three translation methods for you to choose from. If one service is unavailable, another can take its place:

Google Translate (online)
MyMemory (online)
Apple On-Device Translation (using the iOS Translation API — works offline)

Voices & Playback

Select the voice for each language through your iPhone’s System Settings → Accessibility → Read & Speak → Voices.
Adjust the speed of the translated voice directly in the app UI.
Tap any translated result to hear the word or phrase again.
Tap the transliteration to open a popup with the full word or sentence and hear the translation so you can practise the pronunciation.

Recording & Offline Use

You can record your dialogue with the app and play it back to perfect your pronunciation and hear your improvements.

The app caches the 65,535 most recent words or phrases, so you can continue using many translations offline and reduce the number of API lookups.

CarPlay

GeiDeLei includes Apple CarPlay integration starting with iOS 26, so you can use the app safely while driving.

Privacy promise: GeiDeLei does not collect any user data, does not require sign-up or an account, has no in-app purchases, and is completely free. The developer’s goal is to keep the app connected to the best available free services so translation remains low-cost and accessible.
